“Just watch the sunset over Liverpool from this 34th-floor restaurant”, say fans of this spectacular venue in the West Tower, the city’s tallest. Run by Cathy Frost, whose developer husband Hugh built the tower, the operation’s modern British cuisine has consistently impressed reporters, and new head chef Nathan Booth has settled in well following the departure of Elliot Hill to the Chester Grosvenor.

“Magnificent distant views of Snowdonia are the highlight of this establishment” on the 34th floor of the West Tower – although the “great modern food and service make for a lovely dining experience” that is “definitely one for romantics watching the city views at night”. Chef Elliot Hill left in June 2022 (after our annual diners’ poll concluded) to head up the kitchens of the Chester Grosvenor, but we’ve held the ratings as the food here historically has always been surprisingly good for a ‘room with a view’.

“Views from the 34th floor over Liverpool and Snowdonia are exceptional” at the West Tower’s crowd-pleasing destination, serving “top-class cuisine at a great height!”. Though not tough to locate, fans say it’s “a real find”, whether you opt for the “amazing” mains or “an afternoon tea with a twist” (the latter generally garnering the most comments).

“The views are just to die for” at the West Tower’s 34th floor restaurant – a “great place to bring people”, particularly if you opt for the afternoon tea – but it’s no one-trick pony, and also pumps out some “gorgeous”, more serious cooking. Even the least enthusiastic report (which finds it “overpriced and way too pretentious”) says “it has the most amazing setting, and the food’s good”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
