“Italian small plates (this time)” “from the Salt House tapas stable” – win solid ratings for this “friendly, buzzy restaurant” from the Red & Blue team. It’s “great for a larger party”, with “seats at the bar good for dates”; “it’s crowded so you do get to hear your neighbours’ conversations – although in Liverpool that can be theatre”.

The business district “sister to Salt House Tapas” is “always a local favourite”, with an Italian “small plates menu that means you can take your time and graze over a leisurely glass of wine”. Owners Red and Blue Restaurants launched a fourth city-centre joint, ‘Rocket and Ruby’, on Castle St in late 2018, with a Bacaro expansion also in the pipeline.

“Not many places come close to Bacaro,” say fans of the Salt House Tapas crew’s “busy, modern” Italian joint, in the business district; “the (small plates-style) menu changes regularly” and is “more eclectic than the Venetian-style name would imply”.

For 30 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"Ate here twice in August. Excellent small plates, at a superb price point (£9.95 for fillet of beef and tempura prawns). Friendly attentive staff. Recommend sitting at the bar. Will be back next time I'm in Liverpool. "
