Indonesian cuisine with a celeb makeover

An Indonesian celebrity couple are bringing a French-accented take on their national cuisine to London with the launch of Le Nusa restaurant in the Strand.

Actor/singers-turned-entertainment entrepreneurs Raffi Ahmad and Nagita Slavina own several restaurants in Jakarta and beach clubs in Bali and Sumatra. They opened their first international restaurant in Paris three years ago, and are now bringing their ‘Indonesian bistronomy’ to the UK.

The menu offers what is billed as a ‘refined and expressive interpretation of Indonesian cuisine’, taking dishes from the country’s varied regions, including: Udang Jeruk Bali (prawns with pomelo, lime and chilli); Bebek Sambal Andaliman (pan-seared duck breast, green chilli and andaliman pepper); Soto Betawi (coconut milk broth with ox tongue, tomato and melinjo crackers); Tongseng Kambing (lamb shank in a Javanese curry); and Se’i Sapi (smoked brisket with sambal luat and basil).

For dessert there’s a deconstructed kolak pisang with layers of caramelised banana, pandan, coconut milk and coconut ice cream.
