Margot’s Bistro in Padstow, Cornwall – which, according to our reporters, “deserves to be famous just as much as Rick Stein’s restaurants” – has announced that it is to close after 19 years.

It may be “tiny” (19 covers), but the bistro “turns out consistently superb food” that’s “always a delight”.

In an announcement on Twitter the restaurant said: “We are sad to announce that we will be closing at the end of March 2015.

“After 19 years at Margot’s, the last 16 as owners, we feel it is time to explore other ideas. We have had the time of our lives in Padstow, been proud to serve both the locals and visitors, and become part of the finest communities in Cornwall . Our thanks to the people of Padstow for making us so welcome, the staff over the years for their amazing efforts, the guests who came time and time again and our suppliers who have always given us their best.”

Owner Andy Oliver says he is now looking for a new challenge but has no plans to leave Cornwall.
