If you’ve ever wondered how the Harden’s Guide came about, our co-founder Peter Harden reveals all in an interview with the veteran restaurant consultant, writer and Financial Times contributor Nick Lander.
Peter naturally declines naming his favourite restaurant, but he does mention some memorable meals, and offers a fascinating account of his aims in publishing the annual guides which have traced the extraordinary evolution of the restaurant industry since 1991.
He says, among other things, that: “I’m most interested in why people go, and in particular whether they are getting the deal they bargained for. Where food is indeed central to the mission and why people seek a particular establishment out, then I hope we give that same food sufficient attention.”
The interview is published on the website of Nick’s wife Jancis Robinson, the doyenne of wine writers.
