Thai Restaurants in Spitalfields
1. Rosa’s Thai restaurant in Shoreditch 12 Hanbury St - E1
2021 Review: The “lovely Thai food” at these reliable cafés is “impressively authentic given that they are a chain” – “excellent value” and “fast”, if occasionally let down by “iffy service”. Founded in 2008 by Saiphin and Alex Moore, who inherited the name of their first East End site, the group has 18 branches in London and expanded to Liverpool, Manchester, Reading (delivery only) and Leeds following the sale of a majority stake to US investors. The couple also have two spin-offs, Lao Café in Covent Garden and the new Chinese noodle bar Hoh Sek in St Katharine Docks.
2. Som Saa Thai restaurant in Shoreditch 43a Commercial St - E1
2021 Review: “Possibly the most authentic Thai cooking in town” (“fresh”, “fragrant” and focused on fiery, north-eastern-Thai cuisine), plus some “delicious cocktails” have carved a major culinary reputation for this trendy four-year-old, in a converted factory south of Spitalfields Market. Its ratings were dragged down this year though by a few less rapturous reports: “perfectly good, but not the outstanding blow-out we expected from some reviews”.
3. Smoking Goat Thai restaurant in Shoreditch 64 Shoreditch High Street - E1
2021 Review: “Better Thai food than Thailand!” – Ben Chapman’s hip Shoreditch BBQ goes from strength to strength, with its “perfect and spicy” dishes; and a “slightly haphazard, rock ’n’ roll atmosphere when it’s busy” (i.e. mostly). “It’s a perfect place to celebrate with friends, as the food’s handy for sharing, staff are super friendly and there are great local craft beers on tap”. Top Menu Tip – “Sometimes the chilli can be a bit heavy handed, but those crunchy, fish sauce chicken wings are like catnip: utterly addictive”.
