French Restaurants in Southwark
1. Boro Bistro French restaurant in Southwark Montague Close, 6-10 Borough High St - SE1
“Interesting and very edible food in ‘tapas mode’”, at “very reasonable prices”, is on offer at this contemporary Franco-Hispanic bistro in Borough Market. “Charming service” from “efficient and friendly staff” adds to its attractions – along with “plenty of outdoor tables” for summer scoffing.
2. La Bonne Bouffe French restaurant in Southwark 49 North Cross Rd - SE22
2018 Review: “New on the block, with French bistro food harking back to the ’70s”: this East Dulwich arrival evokes mostly supportive reviews. There are critics who feel “more polish is required”, but fans – while acknowledging some “not-quite-knowing-how-things-work moments” – say “it’s not trying anything too clever”, but can be “brilliant”.
3. Le Pont de la Tour French restaurant in Southwark 36d Shad Thames - SE1
It can be “very special, particularly on a sunny day”, at this well-known D&D London stalwart, thanks to its “lovely situation” (complete with large terrace) by the Thames near Tower Bridge; and it remains “a firm favourite” for a few folk, including for a date. Its famous heyday, when the Blairs and the Clintons supped on salmon and Bollinger at the height of Cool Britannia is well gone now, though, and – remarkably for what was once the City’s top expense-accounter destination – of the relatively limited feedback this place now inspires, none of it plugs its suitability as a business rendezvous. The straightforward French-ified menu, likewise, elicits muted enthusiasm, although its heavyweight wine list still rates mention… as do the prices.
