British, Traditional Restaurants in Berkshire
1. The Hind’s Head British, Traditional restaurant in Bray High Street - SL6
“Still a fabulous gastropub… even if prices are a little on the high side” – Heston Blumenthal’s “very relaxing” hostelry takes a bit more flak nowadays for being expensive, but for the most part remains very highly rated by the survey. “Classic, very English pub dishes are interpreted with creative flair” and “washed down with imaginative cocktails (and mocktails)” as well as good ales and wines.
2. Carpenter’s Arms British, Traditional restaurant in Sunninghill 78 Upper Village Rd - SL5
This smart village pub with a garden incorporates a very French dining room, ‘La Cloche’, which serves bistro classics with a nod to the hearty dishes of the southwest, along with a good selection of wine and beer.
3. The Pot Kiln Game restaurant in Frilsham Yattendon Estate - RG18
Reopened in September 2019 after a period of closure – complete with guest rooms, new kitchen, restaurant extension and game cookery school – this well-known pub won renown for its game cooking under former proprietor Michael Robinson. Nowadays run, with much of the same team, by his ex-wife, Katie Robinson, we would hazard a guess that its new incarnation will continue the good points it had of old, including its well-kept beer and beautiful large garden in summer.
