International Restaurants in Oxford
1. The Vaults and Garden Cafe British, Modern restaurant in Oxford University Church of St Mary the Virgin, Radcliffe Sq - OX1
It's “not somewhere to linger and have an elegant time” and “there isn't really any service as such”, but this ethical/organic church-crypt café remains a “regular refuelling stop” for its “great selection of hot and cold food served up generously, canteen-style” (“come hungry”). “Outside tables offer a spectacular outlook over the Radcliffe Camera and Radcliffe Square.”
2. The Coconut Tree International restaurant in Oxford 76 Saint Clement's Street - OX4
“Authentic Sri Lankan dishes at affordable prices” – the hit formula behind this “lively” street-food outfit with eight branches in the South West; fans can’t get enough of their wacky cocktails and “the food is so good”.
3. The Magdalen Arms British, Modern restaurant in Oxford 243 Iffley Road - OX4
“Atmospheric and busy” – this well-known and frequently rammed gastropub has not quite kept up with the gastronomic achievements of its illustrious London stablemates, the Anchor & Hope and Canton Arms. Thin feedback this year, to the effect that “it can get over stretched but is better than average”.
