“Just down the road from Gleneagles Hotel” – and in its own mould “able to hold its own” with its more famous neighbour (where the proprietors used to work) – this “cosy” high street restaurant “ticks all the right boxes”, and is a big hit with all those who comment on it. It helps that it’s a fraction of the cost: the table d’hote menu offers a choice of six dishes for each course: two courses for £29.95 and three for £37.95.

“Small, family-run restaurant” where the “predominantly British menu is superb” and there’s an appealing “wine list from all over the world”. “It punches above its weight” and some fans are completely wowed: “far better than its neighbour, Gleneagles!” (where the owners honed their craft).

“A great alternative to the nearby Gleneagles Hotel restaurants” (where the owners used to work) – this “delightful” venue provides “lovey light and fresh cuisine” which in many reviewers’ eyes bears comparison with its starrier competitor, and eating here is “much cheaper than up the hill”.

For 30 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
