“Now getting back to what they do best, serving up local ingredients in the most mouth-watering dishes”, this high-street outfit down the road from Gleneagles (and whose owners used to work there) “never disappoints” with its well-priced seasonal cooking. “If this restaurant was just down the road we'd be going every week… one not to miss!”.

It’s perhaps unfair to call this rather grand traditional dining room the ‘other’ restaurant at this famous resort, and – although it’s somewhat less elevated in aspirations than Restaurant Andrew Fairlie, it’s only a question of degree. And feedback says results here from a kitchen presided over by Simon Attridge are “very good” too. It’s by no means the cheap option though. “It is Scottish fine dining but it’s at a fine price too! Set menu currently £85 for three courses”.
3. Andrew Fairlie, Gleneagles Hotel French restaurant in Auchterarder
Andrew Fairlie died of brain cancer in 2019 at the age of 55, so it is a tribute to the dedication of his long-time lieutenants, head chef Stephen McLaughlin and general manager Dale Desbury, that guests are still bowled over by their meals at his restaurant in this grand resort, famous for both golf and geopolitics. The late chef’s fingerprints are still everywhere, from his signature dish of local lobster home-smoked on whisky-barrel chips (a fixture on the menu), to the vegetables grown in the kitchen garden he established. “5 out of 5 says it all, doesn’t it?”. A refurbishment of the restaurant is planned in early 2022.

Chef-patron Fabrice Bouteloup combines his classical French training with “lots of local produce” to create excellent meals at the “very good” restaurant with rooms he opened with his wife Alison in 2007.
