Featured North Greenwich Restaurants
1. Five Guys O2
Burgers, etc restaurant in Greenwich
The O2, Peninsula Square - SE10
2021 Review: “When all you want is an old-school burger”, these US-based arrivals of recent years really “hit the spot” – you can “build your own”, with “tons of accessories”; plus “seriously addictive fries”, “thick milkshakes”, and “more soda flavours than is reasonable”. “The eat-in experience is as depressing as McDonald’s”, though, in fact perhaps more so – “some branches have a strangely gloomy ambience” – but fans feel that “if you don’t mind 1980s-rock, a trip can still be surprisingly fun”.
2. The Gun
British, Modern restaurant in Canary Wharf
27 Coldharbour - E14
“Love, love, love sitting outside on a summer‘s evening” – this Grade II listed Docklands tavern has a riverside location to die for (10 minutes walk from Canary Wharf and opposite The O2) and a cosy historic interior too. Its days as a foodie magnet are long gone nowadays though – expect OK scoff, but no better than at others in the Fullers chain.
3. Street Burger
Burgers, etc restaurant in Greenwich
Entertainment District, The O2 - SE10
Gordon Ramsay’s four-year-old fast-food chain – one of several diffusion brands from the TV chef – has half a dozen sites across the capital. Views on it have always been somewhat mixed and became even more polarised this year: between those who consider it “a great new discovery” and those who feel it’s “disappointing for an upmarket burger”.
4. Marugame Udon
Japanese restaurant in Greenwich
Unit 2.03 Entertainment Avenue, The O2 - SE10
“High-quality udon” – Japanese wheat noodles served with a wide choice of extras, including tempura, katsu curry and various soups; plus the option of rice-based dishes – are the USP of this Kobe-based global chain which arrived in the UK three years and now has nine branches across London (plus one in Reading) to add to its 800+ back in Japan and further 250 globally. Be prepared to specify what you want at the counter as you enter – then you collect your cooked-to-order dish, add garnishes and find a table.
