Featured Swiss Cottage Restaurants
1. Bradley’s British, Modern restaurant in Swiss Cottage 25 Winchester Rd - NW3
Simon and Jolanta Bradley’s neighbourhood restaurant in Swiss Cottage has provided a professional experience for more than 30 years, with modern European cooking that’s a cut above what might be expected in its backwater location. Ratings are undercut by one or two reporters who see “room for improvement”. But there’s no doubting its “reasonable pre-theatre menu” is particularly useful for visitors to the nearby Hampstead Theatre.
2. Green Cottage Chinese restaurant in Swiss Cottage 9 New College Pde - NW3
2019 Review: This veteran Chinese in a Swiss Cottage parade of shops “never fails to please with its authentic food in generous portions”, according to a regular who has “been going for 40 years”. No huge prizes for service here, though.
3. Fiddie’s Italian Kitchen Italian restaurant in Camden 13 New College Parade - NW3
2021 Review: “Fun and lively, with a management who make you feel extremely welcome” – this simple, ‘Italian kitchen’ in Swiss Cottage serves pizza and pasta plus somewhat more ambitious dishes: it’s all “delicious and good value for money”.
4. Atari-Ya Japanese restaurant in Swiss Cottage 75 Fairfax Road - NW6
“A sushi bar in a shop” may not sound appealing, but these cafés operated by a Japanese food importer – in Ealing, Swiss Cottage, Golders Green and Marylebone – provide fresh, “clean-tasting” sushi, and they’re “good-value”.
5. Singapore Garden Malaysian restaurant in Swiss Cottage 83a Fairfax Rd - NW6
“Reliably delicious food” – “with choices from all over Asia” including “incredible laksa” and other Singaporean/Malaysian specialities – ensure that it’s perennially “hard to get a table” at this modest-looking veteran in a shopping parade near Swiss Cottage. It has “very reasonable prices too – what’s not to like?” Giles Coren, restaurant critic at The Times, spends his own money here as a long-time regular.
6. Cinder BBQ restaurant in Belsize Park 66 Belsize Lane - NW3
“A tiny new kid on the block” – this Belsize Park newcomer from chef Jake Finn has 16 seats inside matched by a similar number outside. “All the food is cooked over wood flames” on a Josper grill, with influences from lots of sunny countries all over the world (including Peru, Japan, Italy, France and Greece). Not all locals are dazzled (“not as hot as reported”), but most say results are “fabulous” – “everything tastes good and shares well, delicious lamb, beef, bream, and lots of delicious veggie plates”.
7. Lume Italian restaurant in Primrose Hill 38 Primrose Hill Road - NW3
A small, well-chosen array of Sardinian wine – including many “small growers” – is a highpoint (one of the backers is a wine distributor) at this informal Italian deli/wine shop, which opened in spring 2019. “The menu likewise is small, simple and well-executed”, including “good, fresh pasta as you’d expect”. Made more desirable by its cute neighbourhood location in ultra-desirable Primrose Hill – it received a big early thumbs-up for its cucina from someone with strong family ties to the area: Evening Standard (now Tatler) critic, Fay Maschler. “It’s a little pricey, but you pay for the postcode plus they only have about a dozen covers”.
8. Pizza Paradiso Pizza restaurant in Swiss Cottage 13 New College Parade - NW3
Deliveroo has quietly opened its first restaurant – an anonymous-looking pizzeria called Swiss Cottage – with the ostensible aim of delivering the company insights into how restaurants operate.
