Featured Euston Restaurants
1. The Gilbert Scott British, Traditional restaurant in Euston Euston Rd - NW1
“It’s such a wonderful building” – the spectacular neo-Gothic riot of St Pancras Station – and Marcus Wareing’s “fabulously grand” and “buzzing” dining room near the Eurostar platforms “seduces with its ambience” (“it’s all rather ‘Orient Express’”). Judged as a foodie destination alone, appreciation of its distinctively traditional, British cuisine is sometimes dogged by gripes about dishes that are “not up-to-scratch” (or incidents of “clunky” service), but most reports applaud its “very pleasant” approach and “excellent menu that’s always evolving, so the food stays interesting”.
2. Great Nepalese Indian restaurant in Euston 48 Eversholt St - NW1
“Delicious and different food and caring hosts who explain its origins” have kept fans loyal to this otherwise nondescript fixture, down the side of Euston Station, for over 50 years. Some of the food is fairly standard north Indian fare – the Nepalese specialities are the way to go.
3. Roti King Malaysian restaurant in Euston 40 Doric Way - NW1
“Worth the queue and the terrible decor” – this “crowded” basement dive near Euston has been around in various locations for yonks, but, with the rise of street food as a genre, has become more ‘discovered’ in recent times. “Exciting roti” (“with mutton curry, is ridiculously good”) that are “cheap and authentically delicious” are the pay-off for braving its decidedly “down-to-earth” quarters.
4. Chutneys Indian restaurant in Euston 124 Drummond St - NW1
“Fresh and tasty” veggie fare and an “amazing lunch buffet” make this “ridiculously cheap” curry house a perennial favourite in Euston Station’s ‘Little India’. “I’ve been going here for literally decades and have introduced many happy fans to the delights of Chutneys” – “the service could be a bit friendlier but when you’re getting all you can eat for well under a tenner, who cares?”. “The decor of the ground floor has improved over the years, although the basement is less attractive”.
5. Ravi Shankar Indian restaurant in Euston 132-135 Drummond St - NW1
A “long-term favourite” in Euston station’s Little India, this is “the place to come for your masala dosa fix: there’s lots to choose from, they’re big, really really tasty, and amazingly cheap”. “The weekend buffet has to be the best deal in town – you can gorge yourself on delicious vegetarian food and still get change from a tenner”.
6. Diwana Bhel-Poori House Indian restaurant in Euston 121-123 Drummond St - NW1
Perhaps “the best of the bunch among the Indian restaurants along Drummond Street near Euston” – this “no-frills institution” has served a “varied South Indian vegetarian menu” to a mixed crowd of students and office workers for the best part of 50 years. Its “terrific value” (and BYO policy) means it can be “too crowded for comfort”, but while the interior is “sketchy” it’s a joy to any style anoraks who want to know what a late 1960s canteen actually looked like.
7. The Savannah International restaurant in Euston 81-103 Euston Street - NW1
Limited-but-upbeat feedback on this new hotel dining room: “an oasis of calm near Euston station (an area short of nice places to eat!)”. Ethical sourcing and African influences in dishes – as well as Asian ones – help take it slightly out of the mainstream, and one or two early reports say it’s “a hidden gem”.
