The Fernandez family’s comfortable Victorian country house, set down a sweeping driveway, is still going strong after three decades, serving “consistently good” British food with a twist (including, latterly a monthly changing tasting menu); be sure to “get plenty of exercise during the day”, as portions err on the generous size.

Positive feedback again – if still quite limited – for this all day deli/café strong on coffee, light bites and brunches; and which moonlights as a restaurant when a more eclectic, ‘world food’ type menu is served (from baked camembert to Louisiana Jambalaya, via potted shrimp). They must be doing something right, as in March 2019 they acquired a second site in this north Lakes town.

2017 Review: “A little gem hidden away” in a boutique hotel “with lovely views down the valley”; “eating here is always a memorable occasion” owing to the “well thought-out menu (with lesser cuts made interesting)” and “excellent wine pairings”.
