Putney Restaurant Guide

This popular small bistro group is “so very French”, especially when eating at the original “buzzy” Battersea branch, which opened in 2007 “at an attractive location near the river”. The other branches – in Putney, Wandsworth Common and the City (plus one inside the Institut Français in South Kensington) – are also applauded as “good value” options, but results can also seem a little “unadventurous”.

2021 Review: This yearling all-day brasserie near East Putney tube “has succeeded where several other restaurants have failed”, by following a formula of “good food and value for money”. “It knocks the socks off the Bill’s or Brew and their wannabes”.

“Where else can you get ramen and laksa in the same place?”, ask fans of this “efficient and friendly” pan-Asian chain founded almost 30 years ago in Bloomsbury’s Brunswick Centre and now with branches in Ealing, Putney, Kensington and Chiswick plus two delivery-only kitchens.

“Very good food”, “charming service” and what they claim is the ‘only authentic Kashmiri cuisine in England’ are the distinguishing features of this Putney venture from Rohit & Shweta Razdan, whose culinary journey took them to New Delhi and Singapore before settling here eight years ago.

2021 Review: “When all you want is an old-school burger”, these US-based arrivals of recent years really “hit the spot” – you can “build your own”, with “tons of accessories”; plus “seriously addictive fries”, “thick milkshakes”, and “more soda flavours than is reasonable”. “The eat-in experience is as depressing as McDonald’s”, though, in fact perhaps more so – “some branches have a strangely gloomy ambience” – but fans feel that “if you don’t mind 1980s-rock, a trip can still be surprisingly fun”.

“In Putney’s fairly indifferent restaurant scene, this is a welcome addition” – a Sicilian ‘gastro-bakery’ with an interesting selection of pastries from that sweet-toothed island, plus pasta and pizza.

2023 Review: Massimo Masili’s Sardinian showcase is a “very welcome new addition to the SW15 dining scene” thanks to its “excellent food and extremely friendly service”. It can, though, seem “too expensive for what it is” – “Putney location, Mayfair prices!”

This “surprisingly good Chinese” in Putney specialises in the cuisines of Shanghai and Sichuan, and the “flavours and produce” are by all accounts “excellent” (even better if you “ask for the Chinese menu”). Top Menu Tip – “particularly fine duck”.

“Sat in an outdoor pod with the family, drinking mimosas and with lovely views of the river” is a key feature of London’s two outposts of these comfy venues (part of a national chain), both of which have riverside terraces featuring all-weather igloos for year-round fun. The Italian-ish food in the dining rooms is “unexceptional”, but “their lounge areas are cosy and just the place for morning coffee or afternoon tea”.
