Featured Kew Restaurants
1. The Glasshouse
British, Modern restaurant in Kew
14 Station Pde - TW9
“A five-star experience” – this posher-than-usual neighbourhood haunt, by Kew Gardens tube station is “the lowest profile in the Chez Bruce stable”. Arguably “the dining room itself is a little uninspiring, but it has a good atmosphere when it’s full”, and the operation generally shows “similar care and professionalism” to its siblings, down to the “expert cuisine”; “well chosen, affordable wine list”; and “top cheeseboard”. After a rocky patch, long term fans feel it’s “sprung back to form”, but scores have yet to hit their old highs here, and a more representative view is that “it’s not as superlative as it was, but of very high quality nevertheless”.
2. Petit Ma Cuisine
French restaurant in Kew
8 Station Approach - TW9
This “simple, cosy French bistro” from Central Casting – gingham tablecloths, Impressionist posters, menu of Gallic classics – is a “reliable” hit with both Kew locals and visitors to the nearby botanical gardens. Top Tip – “great value set lunch” (“busy when we went on a Monday lunchtime!”)
3. The Stable
Pizza restaurant in Kew
Unit 12, 8 Kew Bridge Road - TW8
2018 Review: Expanding, 17-strong national chain, with recent openings in Whitechapel and in the new riverside development right by Kew Bridge. Fans like the “beautifully crafted thin bases and wide variety of craft ciders and beers”, but there’s some concern “quality is dropping now the roll-out to the capital has begun”.
5. Antipodea
Australian restaurant in Kew
9 Station Approach - TW9
Originally slated as a sixth branch of Brew Cafe, this site is now to become Antipodea, an all-day cafe-bar featuring breakfasts, coffee and lunches familiar to Brew Cafe fans, plus more exotic fare from chefs James Brown and Moran Etedegi (the latter of whom worked with Yotam Ottolenghi). The site is a former post office by Kew station with a small outside terrace.
