A “fantastic, authentic-tasting southern Indian restaurant” close to the station. It is “very popular for visitors to the rugby” at Leicester Tigers’ nearby Welford Road stadium.

2021 Review: Cyrus Todiwala OBE, the acclaimed Bombay-born TV-chef behind London’s Café Spice Namaste, has chosen a Grade II listed building in the city-centre for his first restaurant outside London; and will feature five separate areas over two floors, including a bar, casual dining and fine dining room. For the town with the biggest Diwali festival outside India, Leicester has always curiously lacked a go-to Indian dining destination – maybe this is it?

This “longstanding vegetarian” was one of the first Gujarati canteens on Leicester’s ‘Golden Mile’, founded by the late couple Bhagwanjibhai and Manglaben Lakhani in 1976 and named after a hit Bollywood film of the era (and is still family-run). It’s always been a bit of an uneven performer, regularly inspiring dud reports, but equally consistently pleasing fans who feel “it always delivers great-tasting food”.
