Harden's survey result
Summary
A meal “never fails to please” – “there’s always something delicious and different on the menu” – at this small spa-hotel in a Georgian manor house on a hillside in north Devon. The long-term contribution of Richie Herkes is key to its success – he joined as head chef in 2003, assumed the dual role of general manager eight years later, and is behind the “great menu (with particularly good fish)” – which is notably good value for cooking of this quality, at £55.50 for 3 courses. Top Tip – “don’t skip canapes before a meal in the lounge with a log fire in winter”.
Summary
Sitting in 20 acres of Devon countryside with very pleasant views, this old manor house boasts a muralled Georgian dining room praised for its “consistently good cooking”. A particular attraction is the “extensive, albeit pricey selection of wines, featuring some obscure names”.
Summary
High ratings across the board for this “lovely old manor house” whose Georgian dining room (with contemporary murals) makes a “charming setting” for “food which never disappoints”, and where you are well looked after by “enthusiastic staff who really care”.
Summary
This “lovely” 50-year-old hotel in peaceful Devon countryside features a particularly fine dining room in the original, early-Georgian wing of the manor house, brought to contemporary life with distinctive murals. The cooking wins solid ratings, with a standard three-course dinner at £49.50 and six-course ‘Gourmet’ dinner at £65 – both felt to be good value for the quality and setting.
For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Northcote Manor Restaurant Diner Reviews
"This meal was a treat for my father who turned 90 in March, this was our first experience of visiting a fine dining restaurant. The day was unforgettable and my father thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. The staff were superb and the attention to detail was fantastic. The food was everything we hoped for and more. We can't thank everyone at Northcote Manor enough. Thank you, it's a day that will live long in the memory. "
