Harden's survey result
Summary
This 350-year-old, Cotswold-stone former malthouse makes a “great setting” for a “smallish but very enjoyable menu”. These days it’s “more of an upmarket restaurant than a pub” under chef Matt Weedon (ex-Lords of the Manor and Glenapp Castle) – “and the prices reflect this”, starting at £29 for the wagyu burger, with a 6-course tasting menu at £80.
Summary
“Somewhere between restaurant and gastropub” – Adam Taylor and head chef Matt Weedon took over in 2019 (replacing the longtime owners), and seem to be tweaking the format of this handsome Cotswold stone inn (built as a malthouse in 1641). “Especially for a summer al fresco lunch, the location is unmatched” and, by most accounts, “food is excellent” too. The £19 burger is the ‘cheap’ option – it’s mostly more ambitious fare, be it from the à la carte or six-course tasting option.
Summary
“Fantastic views when you can sit outside” and “a beautiful Cotswolds setting” are the constant at this attractively modernised country pub. In other respects, however, it’s all change here, as in August 2019 long-term owners Tony and Amanda Timmer retired, and chef for the last decade, Kuba Winkowski, moved on in September 2019. It remains to be seen whether new owner, Adam Taylor, will maintain the stunning standards that have made this such a hot destination, hence we’ve left it unrated till next survey.

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

The Feathered Nest Inn Restaurant Diner Reviews

"Our initial welcome was good and polite, but the service quickly went downhill. There was a mix of inexperienced staff who couldn’t answer questions about the menu or take a dessert order. Then there was a maitre’d who was simply rude & sullen. I fed back the issues when we were leaving and was offered a drink to apologise, but we were leaving and on our way home. We have visited in the past and it was amazing, so we thought it would be the ideal place to finish off a weekend on the Cotswolds for my parents 50th wedding anniversary. So disappointed, won’t be returning again."
