Opposite the site of Vivienne Westwood & Malcom McLaren’s once-famous 1970s boutique at World’s End, this traditional neighbourhood trattoria has a small but enthusiastic fan club of locals, some of whom doubtless used to shop over the road, but who nowadays sport more conventional Chelsea attire.

A meal is “always fun” at this long-running Chelsea trattoria near World’s End, where host Bucci looks after his guests well. The service may “lack finesse”, but the food is “fine” and comes in “massive portions”.

“Enormous fun!” “Everyone is treated like a long-lost relative” at this “West London hangout”, where charismatic host Bucci presides over a “wonderful local”. “The food is perfectly OK without being special”, and comes in “massive portions: never mind the quality, feel the width!” – which adds to its appeal as a firm family favourite.

This 21-year-old World’s End trattoria wins consistent high ratings across the board, and its tone is set by the outspoken owner, Bucci – who insists that mobiles are turned to silent ‘because they can affect the cooking process of spaghetti’. The menu also promises that ‘red heads get a free drink’ – but you can’t say ‘I was a red-head once’.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"A great fun Italian restaurant. Usually share entrees - beef carpaccio, zucchini flowers, mussels. Mains I think their pastas are the best choice. Spaghetti vongole or ragu are always excellent. Highly recommend."
