Summary

The Dammone family’s Headingley stalwart, founded by Salvatore in 1976, is by many accounts “still the best Italian in Leeds”. Known for its “delicious” pasta and pizza, it has developed under sons Gip & John to incorporate a café/salumeria and offer ambitious ‘alter ego’ tasting menus. “They never rest on their laurels, the tastes and flavours are always developing”.

Summary

“Pizza, pasta, gelato!” – when it comes to “good Italian fodder” in a “great atmosphere” this Headingley stalwart can’t be beat, and their new café/deli a few doors down is also a “super spot for lunch”. Love or loathe the TV chef, “Gordon Ramsay was right... this ‘f-Word’ winner is flippin’ good!”

Summary

“Still the best Italian place to eat in Leeds after 36 years” according to fans of this Headingley stalwart. With its “tasty, interesting” grub and “friendly, efficient service”, this “noisy” staple “could teach some fine dining places a lesson or two”. “They keep reinventing themselves and now have a wonderful salumeria a couple of doors away, which is a great all-day café with lots of Italian products to buy.”

Summary

It's “nearly 40 years old now”, but this Headingley stalwart still offers a “consistently great experience” revolving around “surprisingly authentic and bountiful Sicilian cuisine – in Leeds of all places”!; Top Tip – “the owners' café/deli next door is a great place for lunch”.

"Had a very enjoyable meal at Salvo's. My Lasagne was "to die for". A very good and well priced wine list and, even on a Sunday night, very buzzy."
