Harden's says

The restaurant at this stylish, waterside, nautical-themed hotel and spa is called - of course - The Captain's Table (the hotel itself, built in 2006, is designed to look like a cruise liner). There's a lounge and bar too, both serving all-day food and snacks, or you could go for afternoon tea; the beautiful views over the River Stour make it a special occasion. Four-legged friends are welcomed, too.

Unrecognisable from its days as a Pontin’s in the early 90s, this slick, nautically themed spa hotel has a striking setting overlooking the harbour and River Stour, making it a “lovely place to dine” (perhaps after enjoying a pre-dinner drink on the terrace). The dining area is split between a convivial lounge bar and more formal dining room, both serving the same classic, fish-centric menu that “never disappoints”. Top Tip – if you’re feeling adventurous, it’s possible to arrange a trip to the Isle of Wight, just a 45-minute journey by boat.

“A wonderful waterside location” is the crown jewel feature of this “relaxed and unhurried” modern hotel dining room – the location overlooking boats on the Stour “makes the restaurant a romantic venue and if weather permits being seated outside is a bonus”. “Lovely food” too – “well presented and reasonably priced”.

“Waterside dining with a great ambience” – and “the plus point of an all-day menu” – brings a steady stream of diners to this stunningly situated modern hotel dining room with floor-to-ceiling windows over the Stour estuary. “We’ve never been disappointed by the cooking”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
