Harden's survey result
“On the edge of delightful Christchurch, with lovely views over Mudeford” – Alex Aitken’s well-known venture is “a great spot in the grounds of the Christchurch Harbour Hotel” (“especially on a sunny day when you can also sit outside”); and being “here as the sun sets, gazing through the sky-high windows across the gently lapping waters, brings a feeling of calm, even after the toughest of weeks at work”. “London prices make it a special occasion destination”, with predominantly fish dishes that are generally “first class” (“if a little patchy at times”). Top Tip – “parking is woefully insufficient, so allow time to sort that out”.
“The views over Christchurch harbour are lovely” – “there can be few better” – at Alex Aitken’s “gorgeously situated”, “seafood-centric” waterside venue, in the grounds of the Christchurch Harbour Hotel, with a “vibrant (if slightly clinical) interior that works well in warmer months (but can feel more bleak in winter)”. On most reports, “a wonderful range of carefully created dishes are lovingly plated” to create meals “of a consistently high standard”, and – while there were a greater number of gripes about high prices here this year – for the majority it remains “expensive but worth it”.
“Stunning views across Christchurch Harbour add to the exceptional dining experience” at Alex Aitken’s “gorgeous and romantic”, waterside structure (“there are not many restaurants with a better outlook so don’t go in the dark!”). Prices strike some reporters as a little “extortionate” but it’s a formidable all-rounder, with skillful cuisine – in particular “seafood is always amazing” – which is “complemented by attentive but unobtrusive service”.
“If the weather is good, there are few finer spots to spend the afternoon” than this “superb location” – “a small, contemporary glass-and-wood structure overlooking Christchurch harbour”. “Alex Aitken has a winning formula here (even at the London prices!)”, centring on his “fabulous” cooking, with “food sourced within 15 miles”.
Our Chef Patron, Alex Aitken, champions fresh, seasonal and local food, with fresh fish caught and landed daily from Mudeford Quay and a variety of seafood including local oysters, lobster and shrimps.
