Harden's survey result
Summary
Cardigan Bay fish and shellfish is the menu highlight at this boutique hotel in a “stunning setting at the end of the quay in Aberaeron” – backed up by Welsh lamb and Ceredigion cheeses. “A bustling gastropub with the restaurant off to one side, it feels lively and fun”. Wells & Louise Jones of the Cardigan-based Flatrock hospitality group took the Harbourmaster over last year from longtime owners Glynn & Menna Heulyn.
Summary
“Fresh fish and seafood, much locally caught (and served “just off the boat”) is always on the menu at this restaurant/hotel, sited superbly at the end of the quay in the picture-postcard town of Aberaeron” and notably set in the former harbourmaster's house.
Summary
“The absolutely stunning setting” – “at the end of the quay with a lovely view over the harbour in picturesque Aberaeron” – “is matched by above-average food and excellent friendly service” at this brasserie-with-rooms. Local seafood is the mainstay of the menu.

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Harbourmaster Restaurant Diner Reviews

"Lovely pub come restaurant come hotel. Location is perfect, right by the harbour. Food is good standard for a smart pub although on the day i visited, the choice of seafood was limited. Never the less, a good choice in this part of rural Wales. Good choice of reasonably priced wines."

"Two delightful mains but 1 terribly oversalted dish our only blip in an otherwise long pleasant experience of this favourite stopping off point. Even if the bar restaurant is less atmospheric than the restaurant. "
