Harden's survey result
“Simple, no-fuss good cooking” is rustled up in a tiny kitchen at this small bistro, using “excellent ingredients, and prepared with some imagination”. It can feel a “little cramped”, but there’s a secluded garden at the back adjoining the medieval city walls.
“Amazing food from a tiny kitchen underneath the medieval walls” has won a culinary reputation for this “very cramped” bistro (with cute garden). “It now also has pop ups in the Art Gallery and the Merchant Adventurers Hall with excellent cake”.
It may be home to “one of the smallest kitchens in York”, but this diminutive café (with “recently overhauled garden”) just outside the city walls turns out some “gorgeous” food, including “exceedingly good” puds. It’s “now also in the Art Gallery (100 metres away) where the queues are huge”, making the original HQ “a better choice”.
“Cosy and intimate it may be”, but the food at this diminutive venue near the Minister is, by all accounts, “first-rate” – “gourmet dining at bistro pricing”. (It’s “soon set to expand into another outlet at the local art gallery”.)
Cafe No. 8 Bistro Restaurant Diner Reviews
"A further visit in May confirms this as our favourite York restaurant. Excellent ingredients, prepared with some imagination. Main reservation is that it is rather cramped inside, but when the weather is fine it has tables in a delightful garden."
"Great simple food. Highly recommend "
