Harden's says
A privately owned hotel near the city centre (whose brasserie has no connection to the expanding empire of Ivy grills and brasseries); the place was sold in March 2021 and the new owners have re-named it No.1 - York.
Harden's survey result
Summary
With their exposed brick walls and greige tongue-and-groove panelling, these attractive cellars below a venerable (but recently revamped), 41-bed hotel in residential Bootham confusingly have absolutely nothing to do with the expanding national chain, having traded as ‘The Ivy Brasserie’ in York for over a decade before Richard Caring’s arrival. Less fancy than its namesake but arguably better value for a dependable, hotel-brasserie experience.
For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
