Harden's says
A brasserie-style restaurant from Michel and Alain Roux, within a new waterside residential complex in Taplow (on the former site of Skindles hotel). The venture will be overseen by Alain Roux, chef-patron at nearby Bray's “absolutely impeccable” Waterside Inn.
Harden's survey result
Summary
Reporters “love this riverside, upmarket bistro which delivers a fabulous location, professional service and simple but well-cooked dishes”. Given its starry pedigree – it was relaunched as a Gallic restaurant by hospitality royalty Alain Roux and late father Michel Roux Sr in 2017 – and also given that it’s in a “well-heeled part of West London suburbia, it represents decent value” too (especially taking into account that it has “that elusive ingredient, the ‘feel-good’ factor”). (The site has an interesting history as one of the world’s top nightclubs in the 1970s, when folks like John and Yoko would party the night away).
Summary
This former coaching inn has “everything you’d expect from a Roux Brothers brasserie” – plus a fascinating history as one of the world’s top nightclubs in the ‘70s, when John and Yoko dropped in; it was reborn again when Alain Roux and his late father Michel Roux senior took over in 2017, and the “superb atmosphere by the river” currently abets “top-quality” French cooking at “reasonable prices” too (a snip compared to their Waterside Inn, a couple of miles away).
Summary
“Roux family favourites in a superb setting by river – and at reasonable prices”: no, we’re not talking about the exalted Waterside Inn, but its casual spin-off a couple of miles along the Thames, created by Alain and his late father Michel Roux senior in 2017, on the site of a famous old hotel, recreating a neighbourhood family brasserie in France. The result is “very impressive” – and relatively speaking wallet-friendly.
For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Roux at Skindles Restaurant Diner Reviews
"I love this place! Simple but well thought out menu, the food is always delicious. For a well heeled suburb of Greater London , the cost is actually reasonable especially the mid week set menu lunch. Wines include some affordable choices. If you can, grab a table by the huge window where you enjoy a fabulous view of the River Thames. Welcoming service makes for a very enjoyable experience. "
"A lovely modern brasserie style restaurant in a residential area, right on the River Thames. The Roux family have done great job here. French inspired simple dishes are expertly prepared and presented. The mid week set lunch particularly good value in this affluent part of suburbia. Efficient and friendly service. Lovely loos! A great venue for both celebrating a special occasion or simply taking an informal lunch with friends. On a nice day, the riverside terrace must offer a wonderful al fresco experience but unfortunately poor weather on each of my visits precluded that!"
