“Imaginative dishes with a modern twist” are on the menu at this “well-drilled” operation from chef couple Ben Hall & Carla Ernst, who met while cooking at the esteemed Gidleigh Park in Devon. Their tasting menu is “very good without being over-bearing”, while an à la carte option is also available at most times and lighter meals are served in the bar. The restaurant takes its name from the Beatles song famously covered by Oasis.

Local lad Ben Hall worked at the acclaimed Gidleigh Park, among others, before teaming up with partner Carla Cook to launch this ambitious five-year-old; in November 2022, they upped sticks from their former premises in Roushill to a larger, ex-warehouse setting on Claremont Bank in the city centre. The “really excellent food” (tasting menu only on Fri/Sat nights) remains intact at what is, for fans, “the best restaurant in Shrewsbury”.

Ben Hall and Carla Cook have created a “super menu and the food delivered matches up… in fact exceeds expectations” at this four-year-old venture with an open kitchen. “It’s small, so be sure to book in advance, especially for a special occasion.”

For 34 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"A young team being well trained and react without being asked. The tasting menu is always available, it is very good without being over-facing even with the addition of the cheese course. The nonalcoholic wine flight was a good imaginative touch."
