Harden's survey result
The “freshest seafood right off the boat from Newlyn Harbour” is the formula behind Ben Tunnicliffe’s “fantastic” boozer, occupying a 300-year-old inn on the harbour.
Ben Tunnicliffe took over this 300-year-old harbourside inn in 2012, and its “fresh, innovative and fun” ethos continues to please; the food is “straightforward, carefully cooked” and fish-centric – no surprise given Newlyn Fish Market just round the corner.
“The combination of Ben Tunnicliffe and Newlyn fish market” (barely 200m away round the corner) “spells affordable magic!” to fans of the chef’s “nice, pubby” harbourside inn (even if there is the odd reviewer however, who finds it “disappointing after all the good write-ups”).
Reporters “loved the mismatch of shabby tables and seating at Ben Tunnicliffe’s buzzy, very popular inn”, and the food continued to win solid marks. Scores were generally lower this year though – the pressure of opening Sennen Cove?
