This “busy” bistro a short walk from the harbour serves “fabulous fish-based food with wonderful accompaniments” from chef-patron Joe Wardell, who trained in the classics under Raymond Blanc. “We’re regulars in Cornwall and celebrate anniversaries here – the fresh seafood and blackboard specials never disappoint”.

“A busy restaurant full of happy people” – Joe Wardell’s unassuming bistro a short walk from the harbour is a mainstay of the village and its ongoing popularity is “a testament to the food offering and service”. It serves “great food with daily specials at a reasonable price”“good local fish (e.g. sardines) is very good value for money”.

Just a step or two from the harbour, this “really good” little restaurant from chef Joe Wardell, who trained under Raymond Blanc, has established an enviable reputation over many years with a menu dominated (but not exclusively) by fresh fish and seafood. Its latest development is the addition around the corner of No 1 Millpool, a deli serving all you need for a picnic on a coastal walk, including drinks.

With his “varied and interesting menu” of “delicious local produce”, Raymond Blanc-trained chef Joe Wardell knows how to “totally blow you away”, say fans of his long-established harbourside cottage. Given the setting, a short walk from the quay, it’s no surprise to find “really fresh fish, with inventive things done to it” – and the tarte tatin is pretty special, too.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"One of many visits - an inside table with no harbour view when it us usually dry enough to sit outside in their sheltered walled garden but their food remains lovely - simple but imaginative and well done - their soufflés are to die for and their take on fish and chips with sole and pea purée were excellent - unassuming but highly recommended "
