Harden's says

The Cinnamon Collection (Vivek Singh's Cinnamon Club, Cinnamon Kitchen et al) opens its first venture outside of the Big Smoke at Oxford's city centre Westgate mall. The site vaunts a rooftop terrace for al-fresco dining as well as a cocktail bar, private pagoda and an ice block centrepiece in the dining room serving seafood and ceviche.

“If you’re in the mood for some delicious Indian cuisine”, this duo from Vivek Singh make a more affordable alternative to his flagship Cinnamon Club, pleasing both vegetarians (“great- tasting paneer butter masala”) and omnivores (“the chicken 65 is a particular favourite”). The cavernous City branch can get “incredibly noisy”, but the newer Battersea Power Station branch earns a lot of positive feedback, and is seen as a “viable competitor to Dishoom”, its near neighbour.

“Attractive Indians with a good range of different dishes” – Vivek Singh’s dynamic duo of affordable spin-offs from his celebrated Cinnamon Club inspire practically nothing but high praise. The long-established City outlet set inside a rather 1980s atrium development is “a solid option around Liverpool Street” (although at times “the cavernous interior can feel a bit odd and echoey”); the newer Battersea branch occupies a railway arch near the power station and feels “different” (in a good way).

“Big flavoured, modern Indian dishes” from an “interesting and different menu” win praise for Vivek Singh’s high quality duo: “a more affordable introduction to the Cinnamon Club’s cuisine”. The newer SW11 branch, “with service around an open kitchen in a lively railway arch” near Battersea Power Station is jollier than its longer-established City sibling, where “the décor is quite boring and service a tad patchy” (although the latter is also “pretty decent value in an area that has limited options for a weekend lunch”).

Vivek Singh’s “interesting and innovative” Indian duo still inspire their numerous fans with “delicious” Indian dishes; and the EC2 branch also has the benefit of a “lovely ‘outside’ space” (in fact within a large atrium) that’s “unexpected” given its Square Mile location. Its three-year-old sibling is within the new Battersea Power Station complex. Even some fans, though, have found both locations “less interesting that they were” of late, with incidents of “atrocious” service a particular drag on the general mood. Hopefully, this is a temporary post-pandemic blip – the historic performance here has been consistently good.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
