Grand Pacific's sibling enjoys an impressively posh setting (replete with glamorous cocktail bar) in a basement off Deansgate, making it perfectly “designed for a date”. The food – Aussie/pan-Asian sharing plates – “ranges from average to excellent”, with a shout-out for the “beautiful” bento-box dessert.

“From the same group as Grand Pacific but a major cut above in terms of food quality” – this “superglam” colonial-themed basement venue, off Deansgate, turns out some “scrumptious” Aussie/Asian-fusion sharing plates (plus afternoon teas, etc). “Given its rep as a ‘beautiful people’ hangout, in an act of inverse snobbery I’d been avoiding it – more fool me!”.

This “uber-trendy” subterranean venue off Deansgate serves an “interesting fusion menu” of “Australian tapas” with Indonesian and Japanese influences. Fans love “trying different food via sharing plates here”, but a significant minority reckon it’s “nice but overhyped and overpriced”.

For 31 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"Still one of Manchester's top performers and the updated bar is a great place for a comfortable drink. Incredible value for money and manages to maintain a great standard of food and service, long may it continue "
