Strikingly decorated with murals, this three-year-old modern Japanese from a Cheltenham-based group has proved a “great addition” to Battersea’s ‘Nappy Valley’, and wins praise for “exceptional signature sushi rolls”, “very good cocktails” and its lively style. Ratings are limited by those who find the success of the cooking to be a case of hit and miss.

This “convenient neighbourhood Japanese” was a “welcome addition to Northcote Road” when it landed in Battersea’s Nappy Valley in summer 2020 – vividly decorated and the first London branch of a popular Cheltenham-based group. Not all reporters are convinced, though, with gripes about “flustered service” or indifferent dishes weighing in the balance against those who continue to feel it’s “good value”.

“It’s worth trekking to the far end of Northcote Road for this fresh and energetic newcomer” – the “vibrant and fun” outpost of a popular Cheltenham Japanese, which landed in Battersea in August 2020. “For something a little different, it’s an excellent destination”. “The menu is split in two: one half is sushi, sashimi etc whilst the other half includes hot-plate staples like ramen and katsu curry”. “Staff are friendly” and “the sushi is tops for the neighbourhood”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
