Harden's survey result
Summary
With its “great selection of fresh, authentic and interesting Japanese fusion cuisine”, this high-grade local in Clapham continues to wow reporters, even though what was super-innovative when it was launched 21 years ago by a trio of ex-Nobu chefs is now found all over London. “It’s great to have an off-West End restaurant with reasonable prices and top-quality food.” “Every year it’s my favourite – nothing in London can compare with the grilled scallops and black cod washed down with an Electric Kamikaze buzz-button cocktail!”
Summary
“Exquisite Japanese fusion food as well as fabulously creative cocktails” have made this slick Clapham operation “a perennial favourite” for two decades; and it still gives West End names a run for their money. Top Tip – “gin dara – black cod with sweet miso. I know it’s a Nobu original but this is the best version in town”.

Summary
“A real gem” – “extraordinary” – this Clapham fixture has for many, many years produced some of “the best Japanese you can get, at a really reasonable price”: in fact, locals feel “to be honest, it’s far better than the very expensive well-known Japanese restaurants in Central London”. It also mixes up “some of the most innovative cocktails in town”. The catch: “it’s always packed so the service lets it down... but that means nothing when you taste the food”. “Pity the Fitzrovia branch closed” – but do try Yama Momo in East Dulwich.
For 31 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
