Summary
“Traditional Bologna fodder at excellent prices” is the secret to 31 years of busy trade for this Clapham trattoria. “It’s always strived to serve authentic and interesting Italian food – and succeeded”. What’s more, ratings are up this year: “everything from the food to the service to the ambience was more switched on – seems to have had a kick up the backside due to Covid”. Whatever the reason, eating here is “a very agreeable experience”.
Summary
“For a ‘local Italian’ it’s hard to beat” this “consistently good” trat that celebrates three decades on Clapham’s foodie Northcote Road this year. “It looks and feels like an authentic taverna in Northern Italy” – “there’s nothing flash and no emphasis on fancy tableware or presentation, but I’ve had better food here than at fancier places in town”. It’s “a bit dark inside”, though, “so better for lunch than dinner”. Top Menu Tip – “wild boar ragu”.

For 31 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Osteria Antica Bologna Restaurant Diner Reviews

"A great smallish Italian restaurant that seems to have been here forever. Pasta as it should be; lots of flavour and beautifully spiced. The whole place reeks of Italy and yet it’s homely and welcoming. Wines are ok if not extensive. But it’s not that sort of gourmet place and it all goes together really well."
