Views of the Thames and a chic interior combine to create a lovely setting for this well-groomed South Bank destination: on the ground floor of a swish hotel near Blackfriars Bridge. It escaped the harsh criticisms of past years in the most recent survey feedback: in particular its “super buffet brunch” with bottomless Prosecco is a top feature.

“Way overpriced” – this “noisy” nautical-themed dining room on the South Bank near Blackfriars Bridge has “amazing views of the river” (if from ground-floor level) but the “silly, confusing menu” of sharing plates is simply “not appropriate for a high-end hotel”. The “bottomless fizz” and “burgers-and-brunch catering that masquerades as dining” are clues that it’s “probably focused on the tourist wallet”.

“Top-floor prices with a ground-floor view” makes for an often unhappy combination in the “trying-to-be-über-cool” dining room of this Thames-side, US-owned hotel, near Blackfriars Bridge. The odd fan does applaud its “fabulous Eurofusion fare”, but the whole “bizarre sharing concept” seems like “too much style-over-substance” and “hugely overpriced: even with someone else paying it seemed like a rip off”.

For 30 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
