Harden's survey result
Summary
“It should be excellent”, but there were too many ropey reviews this year of this spectacularly located 32nd floor eatery, owned by Rainer Becker (of Zuma and Roka fame). Gripes are not that its luxurious grills, steaks, raw dishes and seafood are poor – it’s that they are “much too expensive” and that “service makes you feel like a number” rather than an individual.
Summary
“The view is spectacular” from the 32nd floor of the Shard, so “why not put the £35 it would cost to go to the viewing deck towards a meal here”, in the brasserie from Rainer Becker of Zuma and Roka. “The meal is ridiculously overpriced”, of course, but “the atmosphere feels special” and – though the food is not without its detractors – a relatively high proportion of diners here feel “it matches the panorama”. You can choose between the West section for a restaurant-style meal or the East bar with food.

Summary
“A table by the window overlooking the Thames and St Paul’s, a glass of Champagne: ultimate romance!” – that’s the impression left on some fans of this sky-high brasserie from Rainer Becker (of Zuma and Roka fame). That “the food is great, too” can seem like something of an afterthought, but on most accounts it does live up, even if prices are as steep as The Shard’s glass sides! You can book for either the ‘West’ or ‘East’ sections – the former’s selection of grills from the Josper (plus flatbreads, salads, and so on) is more extensive than the latter’s.
For 31 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
