Following a pop-up at Black Lodge Brewery, the Oktopus team have gone permanent in a hidden-away location, serving small plates of 'modern European' fare alongside Black Lodge beers.
Harden's survey result
“The food here is always fascinating”, say fans of this Merseyside two-year-old (which, despite its name, is not a seafood specialist). Critics reckon the standards are “mixed”, to which comes the riposte that “too many people don’t get the concept – it’s designed for sharing plates, not separate orders”. There’s no debating the “good beer selection”.
“A fantastic new restaurant of delightful small plates”, say fans of this yearling, whose “interesting and tasty dishes” make it one of the stars of Liverpool’s gastro boom. Foes beg to differ, complaining that it’s “difficult to put together a balanced meal” from plates which are in fact “medium-sized” – or, more bluntly: “starters after starters. Uninspiring!”.
Oktopus Restaurant Diner Reviews
"Good and imaginative small plates and fun atmosphere- only down sides were that whilst the service was friendly and responsive a couple of our plates didn’t arrive, and the boomy acoustic made it noisy and a tad tricky to have a conversation between four people."
"Really hit and miss. Some lovely ideas but sometimes they try too hard to be trendy and the food loses out as a result. They also served an inset pana cotta and expected to get away with it."
