Harden's survey result
For 25 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. This year diners have submitted over 60,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK.
“Super views from the terrace” and window tables of the Tamar Valley are a constant at this long-established, “quiet and lovely” venture, in “a beautiful location”. But while fans hail “wonderful confident cooking with great flavours”, critics feel the cuisine is “too fussy” or rail at “haphazard service”.
This once-famous restaurant-with-rooms, “off the beaten track” and overlooking the Tamar Valley, continues its return to form; even the most sceptical reporter (who said the food is “nothing exceptional”) rates it well overall, and the majority of reporters find that “splendid” food contributes to “a fine experience”.
This once-celebrated restaurant, in a “peaceful location with good views” of the Tamar Valley, seems to be on the up once more. Feedback is still limited, but it seems “very much better than our last visit 10 years ago!”, and perhaps even worthy of regaining recognition by the tyre men.
The Horn of Plenty, Country House Hotel & Restaurant Restaurant Diner Reviews
"The food is well presented but lacked depth of flavour in many cases. The seafood taster menu was very good value but some courses were average, others good. The smoked haddock chowder was a bit bland. The lobster and langoustine ravioli should have been outstanding but again lacked flavour. The seared marinated salmon was good, the plaice a bit overcooked. The suggested wines were good. The rooms were excellent but I won't go back for the food."
