Tony & Sean McDermott “deserve all their awards” at this “great fish ’n’ chippie (est 1987), on the outskirts of Croydon”, but “worth going miles out of your way” for; it’s “always packed”, so expect to queue.
“Perfectly cooked skinless cod, crispy batter, excellent chips, fresh bread & butter, little dish of pickled onions and gherkins, homemade tartare sauce” – no wonder Tony and son Sean McDermott achieve outstanding ratings for their veteran New Addington chippie (est 1987).
“McDermott’s is a Croydon phenomenon”: albeit one “set in a dull, suburban shopping centre”, it “consistently serves the best fish ’n’ chips”. The ambience – or lack of – has “improved no end” after a recent revamp, and if anything the always “brilliant” staff “seem to have doubled their efforts” too.
Tony McDermott’s stalwart chippy is “just simply the best for miles around”; “daily deliveries from the south coast ensure the fish is at its freshest”, and it’s served in “generous portions” too. Shame about the “scruffy location in a downtrodden shopping arcade”, in the 'burbs, but “that is the only complaint”.
