Harden's survey result
Summary
This “reliable” fish specialist on the edge of Borough Market has raised its game in line with the location’s emergence as a culinary mecca, and can accommodate guests year-round, either indoors or on its street terrace. The team has recently opened La Gamba tapas bar at the Southbank Centre.
Summary
“Reliably good fish and seafood” make this straightforward operation “an attractive option at the edge of Borough Market”. It’s a flexible spot, which makes for an easy transition between indoor and al fresco eating.
Summary
“Once an old-fashioned chippy, it has upped its game effectively now that Borough Market has become fashionable” and nowadays is a more stylish café in this foodie enclave, where a plate of simply prepared fish or seafood makes for the perfect al fresco lunch. Top Tip: “the Applebee’s prawn and fish wrap is one of the best things to eat in London”.
Summary
“Superb fish – not overcooked – in generous portions” is the USP at this Borough Market café, where you can “sit outside for a lovely lunch”. Service came under fire from several reporters this year: “are they becoming a little slapdash?”
For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Applebee’s Fish Restaurant Diner Reviews
"Fish cooked to perfection and some of the best chunky chips ever. A delightful find. Good portion size. Cooked fresh. Friendly staff. Definitely going back when next in Borough Market"
"Almost an oasis in the very crowded Borough Market. Easy to find as it is near the main road. Book the gazebo which is almost outside and you can enjoy the atmosphere of the market without the crush. Overall, a real find for pescatarians. Started with crab (large!) with toast and flavoured butter. Then one tuna and one Wild Sea Bass. Both large portions and much above average. Good wine range Deserts a little average; we chose ice cream which was boring and pricey. Service was mixed, the maître/greeter was rather offhand and let guests hang around but then gave us an effusive farewell! Other staff good enough but a bit disorganised. £110 for two with glass of wine"
"Sat outside and watched the busy tourists go by. Men next to us went through the card, oysters, lobster etc. Clearly regulars. Good place. "
"Buzzy location in Borough market The Dover sole we had was perfectly cooked. Waitress allowed us to taste the wine before we ordered the bottle which was appreciated "
