“Superb fish – not overcooked – in generous portions” is the USP at this Borough Market café, where you can “sit outside for a lovely lunch”. Service came under fire from several reporters this year: “are they becoming a little slapdash?”
“Fresh off the boats”, “simply” and “beautifully cooked” – some of the best seafood in town for a very “reasonable price” is to be found at this “little gem” at Borough Market. “It’s bit crowded but the cooking makes up for it”.
“Superb!”… “a proper fish restaurant” is how all reporters view this “lovely café”, where “sensitive cooking” does real justice to the “simply prepared” dishes. “Prices are a bit high, but that’s normal for somewhere on the edge of Borough Market”.
“The best fish pie ever…”, “The best scallops ever…”, “The best fish ’n’ chips ever…” – this “vibrant” café and fish shop provides “memorable” dishes. It’s “excellent value” too, even if “it’s edged upmarket since Borough Market became so highly fashionable”.
Applebee’s Fish Restaurant Diner Reviews
"A lovely array of spanking wet fresh fish greets you on arrival at this Borough Market stalwart. When they eventually arrive the marine delights do not disappoint. Portions are healthy and fortunately so were our appetites. Plenty of choice and as befitting of fresh fish not overcooked nor messed about with. A short punchy wine list makes selecting a suitable bottle easy. Considering our table was for the afternoon slot, service was slow. Puddings were a little tame, perhaps because the fish was so good. Although pricing seems reasonable it is easy to rack the cost up once you have added bread and a couple of sides. Our only real gripes were in the potato department. A sweet potato mash underneath superb Turbot was luke warm and chips could have done with some triple cooking treatment. Discretionary service charges which now seem de rigueur on all restaurant bills should be taken off. Let the customer decide or build the tip into your prices and pay your staff more."
"More than great fish and chips - the superbly cooked premium fish dishes are wonderful. Best tuna ever!"
