With the departure of Russell Bateman (chef here since 2014) to Knightsbridge’s Pétrus, the future of the small main dining room of this ultra-luxurious 18th century five-star hotel is uncertain. In winter 2018, it will re-open as a pop-up (name unknown) – thereafter it will probably be a restaurant space, but no decisions seem to have been taken in this respect as yet.
The swish main dining room of this 18th century mansion, nowadays a luxe hotel, perennially garners thin feedback and has never really established itself as a foodie destination. Those who do review it are impressed however – “if I won the lottery I would make this my regular place”.
This tranquil but pricey country house hotel inspired relatively scant commentary this year for its main dining room, but – though it didn’t impress all reporters – ex-Petrus chef Russell Bateman’s ambitious tasting menus were generally well rated.
Russell Bateman's “clever, playful but very approachable” food has won positive reports of late for the main dining room of this luxury country house hotel; as ever though, its toppish prices give some cause for complaint.
