This “meaty joint” occupies an attractive converted mill, complete with working water wheel. It “continues to please students and locals in its airy space overlooking river and millpond (I saw a kingfisher!)”.

A “new restaurant in a lovely old watermill” (“with working wheel as part of the interior decor”) from the “small local group” who run the city’s well-known Chop House restaurants; the brasserie fare is of a “decent standard” but, bar the odd “unusual” dish, not quite of a par with the vibe and “very nice waterside location”.

For 30 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
