2022 Review: This “romantic venue just outside Peebles” was built in the Scots Baronial Revival style in 1863, and has been a country house hotel for 50 years. The “delicious and beautifully presented” meals are served in the lavishly decorated Sutherland restaurant, with a hand-painted ceiling, and include produce grown in Cringletie’s own walled garden.

After two years of operation, Bryn and Oxana Jones’s restaurant-with-rooms in the Scottish Borders has yet to inspire much in the way of survey feedback. But in February 2024, The Scotsman’s Rosalind Erskine gave it her seal of approval, saying the couple are “clearly are putting their heart and soul into this venture, and it shows from the warm welcome to the delicious food and personal touches”, with a “very reasonably priced five-course tasting menu”.
