“A quaint and slightly old-fashioned ambience” adds to the charms of a visit to chef-patron Giorgio Alessio’s stalwart venture – est. 1997, and dubbed the ‘English temple of Italian cuisine’ by Italian daily paper La Stampa. “The freshest fish, beautifully cooked” (“the velvet crab pasta is exceptional”) features strongly on the menu, which skips the usual suspects like pizza for true cucina inspired by Giorgio’s native Piedmont – the in-house speciality being Montcalvo truffles, which work their way into super-charged comfort food like pasta, risotto and veal escalopes.
