2023 Review: This “quirky market stall” in the fishmarket is the place to go in Doncaster if you’re looking for fresh seafood, raw or cooked to order, and accompanied by a glass of champagne. There’s a chalked-up menu but, beyond the “excellent” food and drink, not much in the way of creature comforts. Top Tip – “try the fish curry”.

In an “unassuming location adjacent to the A1”, this is a “great little restaurant” (with rooms) where the victuals – from nostalgic classics like prawn cocktails to burgers and pizzas – are never less than “steady” (and sometimes “delicious”, say fans). Top Tip – “the special themed evenings are particularly great”, and might take in tapas or surprisingly upscale Japanese and Indian tasting-menu nights.

“It’s perhaps a low bar, but the food is the best we’ve found in Doncaster!” according to a fan of this central operation: “a definite hidden gem in South Yorkshire”. To call it a deli doesn’t fully do its level of ambition justice, as it incorporates an open kitchen and a fairly grown up seating area for a meal. “Young chefs who are highly talented in creating the most amazing tasting sensations are part of a team with a unique bond (and front of house is one of the best we’ve come across)”. Pop in for a Caviar Crumpet or a spot of Torched Mackerel or Crispy Rabbit with Gochujang Sauce and Pickled Daikon.
