You get “the Mediterranean diet writ large” at this “relaxed, informal, spacious and friendly” outfit opened in 2000 by cook Nikki Billington and her partner Paul Watson, originally in their own home. It’s “the perfect place for a leisurely lunch, with delicious and mostly healthy cooking” including “the freshest tapas fish dishes”, along with “professional and charming service” that ensures “every visit feels memorable and special”.

“Nothing changes here, but in a good way” at this “relaxed and relaxing” out-of-town spot with “wonderful views out to the sea”, serving “lovely fresh fish and great tapas dishes”“who could ask for more?”. A 2021 crowdfunder to buy the freehold attracted support from a foodie A-list including chef Tom Kerridge, writers Nigella Lawson and Jay Rayner, and Madness frontman Suggs.

Serving up “superb Spanish/Moroccan/Middle Eastern food”, this is a “relaxed and unfussy” local “yet you know you are being cooked for in a very serious way” (not least when you opt for the “first-class” fish). “The location overlooking the sea is the final piece in what’s a truly excellent, brilliantly run restaurant” (and “a haven away from the teeming Whitstable a mile away”!).

A “favourite” among locals for its “amazing Mediterranean tapas and super views”, this appealing little venue at the Tankerton end of Whitstable has “great food and atmos, with a laid-back seaside vibe”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
