“Long may it thrive” – an “engaging” neighbourhood joint with links to the local gin and craft-beer outfit, The Keep. “The menu changes regularly, and there’s always something to love”. Top Menu Tip – “save room for desserts…they’re very good” (“the doughnuts are a guilty pleasure”).

Opened in May 2021, this high street venture has yet to inspire feedback in our annual diners’ poll, but did provide the fodder for an April 2022 review from The Observer’s Jay Rayner: a “well-dressed, smart little bistro”, whose menu lists “interesting-sounding things” and dishes up “the best kind of nourishing, invalid food… supremely comforting even if you’re not under the weather”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"Great choices and decent portions. Visited with my daughter. We had three small plates and two side dishes. We didn’t quite finish the main courses as we had to have dessert! Special mention for the octopus, a very hard dish to cook, as it’s very easy to overcook. Each dish was delicious and really enjoyed them. Dessert was a really nice blackberry parfait. It’s not budget food if you have a decent amount, but you pay for quality. Really nice serving staff, good communicators. Toilets very well appointed and clean. Ps even on a Wednesday night it was pretty full, worth booking."
