Founder Luke Garnsworthy and head chef Scott Barnard move their relaxed fine dining restaurant from Berkhamstead to a larger site in Tring. The new venue seats up to 15 people for each service where diners sit together and watch Scott complete each dish in front of them. Choose from a set lunch, three course, tasting menu or vegetarian tasting menu.

Choose from either the 16-seat chef’s table experience or eating in the main restaurant if you visit this ambitious venue under chef Scott Barnard’s (two times runner-up in Masterchef: The Professionals). The former is £135 per person, while the latter provides a three-course meal for £80 per person. Feedback is limited but says “it’s very good”.

“Amazing food, top-notch service” – and “the value is OK for fine dining” – such are the attractions of Scott Barnard’s polished neighbourhood restaurant, which divides between a chef’s counter operation with tasting menu and open kitchen seating just 16 people overall; and larger dining room. The latter is considerably cheaper at £60 per person: at the chef’s table the experience is £105 per person during the week, rising to £130 per person at the weekend.

It’s “a fun experience to celebrate a special occasion” at Scott Barnard’s chef’s table-oriented venture seating just 16 people – particularly if you sit upstairs, where chefs plate up the “excellent” eight-course tasting menus before your eyes (ranging from £95 per person for weekday dinner to £120 per person at weekends); downstairs offers a more relaxed sample of the same menu without the drama, and there’s also a glamorous cellar bar if you want to get a head start on the fun.

“Fabulous food” (including “outstanding vegetarian options”) brings people together at chef Scott Barnard’s sociable chef’s table. “Think of sitting round a table with your friends cooking in front of you, chatting and explaining what they’re doing. When you’ve finished your 6 or 12 courses, you will have spoken to most of the guests at the same sitting as you (15 maximum)”. There’s a separate cellar bar and dining room. The spin-off restaurant-with-rooms in Henley closed down just as we went to press.
